Don Ryun Chang was educated at the University of British Columbia in Canada, the Parsons School of Design, and received his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. He is currently Dean of the Graduate School of Film and Industrial Arts as well as Professor of Branding in the Visual Communication Design department at Hongik University in Seoul, Korea, where he also heads the Brand Media Evolution Lab.
Chang is the former CEO and Executive Creative Director of Interbrand Korea and has advised the Korean government and numerous companies such as Daehong and KT&G. In 2007, he became the first Asian to be elected as President of ICOGRADA, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (now known as Ico-D). As board member, he has helped to initiate many collaborative international design projects.
Don also played a key role as the Organizing Chair for the 2015 International Design Congress in Gwangju Korea and was the Design Advisory Chair for the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics and the Collective Government identity program in 2015. Don has written seven books related to branding design. He has delivered lectures and workshops at California Institute of the Arts, Parsons, Rhode Island School of Design, Monash University, Lancaster University and Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
